Maryland Health Information

Overall, in regards to health statistics, Maryland is rated quite highly, coming in at number 13 out of all 52 states. As you can imagine then, the overall health of its citizens is quite good, although there are challenges afoot. On the positive side, the state is renowned for its low rate of falls and its low rate of geriatrician shortfalls. However, compared to other states, residents here are more likely to visit their dentist.

Some of the challenges that Maryland residents face is that most doctors and other medical professionals aren’t likely to suggest hospital care for ailing patients. Prescription drugs and other medications may be more expensive with a lower rate of coverage compared to some other states. For senior citizens or the chronically injured or ill, if they need meals delivered to their home, they’ll find that this service is not as easy to come by as in some other states. The news isn’t all bad though. The rate of hip fractures is down this year by 20 percent, meaning that per 1,000 beneficiaries under Medicare, 5.5 needed care in a hospital compared to last year’s 6.9.

Besides that, people here are eating better. Food insecurity dropped by 12 percent to a very reasonable 11.9 percent total. This only applies to Maryland residents who are at least 60. These seniors are also in less pain. Last year, pain management statistics for seniors who are at least 65 and have joint issues revealed that 60.7 percent of these patients received pain management. That number has dropped by 24 percent to just 45.9 percent this year. Perhaps people are in less pain because they’ve exercised more these past two years. Physical activity rates are recorded to have jumped 19 percent to 34 percent total for seniors who are at least 65.

CPR Certification in Maryland

Maryland CPR certification is a wise choice for both residents and healthcare professionals in the state. If a resident has an older loved one, family member, neighbor, or friend who they want to look out for, enrolling in a class for CPR skills, whether offered through an employer program or a local university, community college, or school, is best. While pain levels are down for seniors and the rate of exercise is up, it’s never too soon to contact SafeNowCPR, which offers complete online training for Maryland residents. Students can enjoy a flexible schedule on their own time, taking courses and eventually earning a certification. They will have confidence knowing that in any emergency they can perform CPR.
